Kids of all ages love to participate in arts and crafts. It is oftentimes an easy and fun way for them to express their creativity. For homeschool parents and organizers of after school programs, crafts can serve as a helpful and easy project to partake in. There are many projects that you can make with items found around your household. Here is a list of 3 homemade arts and crafts ideas.
Watercolors – Simple ingredients that include 3 tablespoons of baking soda, corn starch and white vinegar, along with 1 ½ teaspoons of light corn syrup, can be mixed together and poured into small containers. Add any color food coloring you like to the mixture and shake. After letting the containers sit for around for around 24 hours, you will have yourself watercolors! Kids can use these in any art project or simply to paint a new picture.
Play Dough – Kids can help in the kitchen with this simple recipe. With 1 cup of flour, warm water, 2 teaspoons of cream of tartar, 1 teaspoon of oil and ¼ cup of salt, mix the ingredients together in a bowl. Then, in a large soup pot, stir the mixture over medium heat until it thickens. Carefully remove the mixture from the pot, let it cool, and start kneading it like dough. You can add food coloring to make different colors of dough. Store them in containers and you have made yourself some homemade play dough!
Glue – Glue is a staple in many art projects. There is a simple way you can make it and even store in your fridge. All you need to do is mix 1 cup of flour, 1/3 cup of sugar, 1 ½ cups of water and 1 teaspoon of vinegar. Warm the mixture in the stove until it thickens and then let it cool. Once cooled, it is ready to use! You can include kids in the making of this project, and then the usage!
