Make a Feather Bookmark With Duct Tape

Summertime is a great time to get in extra reading. If you’re like me, you’re already compiling a summer reading list for your child of some old favorites as well as some new adventures. Here’s a fun feather-shaped bookmark your child can make to as he gets ready to read!

All you’ll need is:

  • Duct Tape – your favorite color or design
  • Pen
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Ribbon or String
  • 4 or 5 Pony Beads (optional)

Bookmark1To begin, cut two pieces of duct tape about 7 inches long. Stick the two pieces together. This will be the main part of your bookmark.

Next, using a pen, draw the shape of a feather on one side of the bookmark. Draw it so it is narrower on either end and wider in the middle. Try to make it symmetrical on both sides.

Now cut out the feather.

Use a ruler and a pencil to draw a line down the middle of the feather. The pencil marks won’t show up on the tape, but it will make an indention down the center.

Now, starting at the top of the feather, make short diagonal cuts downward on one side towards the center of the feather. Repeat with the other side.

Next, cut two pieces of string about six inches long. Tie them together on one end and tape the knot to the back of the feather near the bottom. You can add beads to the end of the strings if you’d like.

Finally, go find a good book to read!
